The blood drive bus will be parked outside the front of the building in the parking lot on Tuesday, November 12th from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The need for blood both locally and nationally remains constant, and donations are needed to offset blood shortages.  People can donate a pint of blood every 56 days.  The requirements to give blood are:

Age:                      Be at least 17 years old
16 year olds may donate with parental consent
Weight:                Minimum of 110 pounds
Identification:      Must provide photo I.D.
Food:                    Eat a meal within four hours before donating

The blood that is collected can be split into three components to save lives for trauma victims, surgeries, cancer treatment, burn victims, liver disease treatment, sickle cell anemia, massive hemorrhaging, and as well for many other medical conditions.  Each unit of blood that is donated can work to save three lives. The process from start to finish takes roughly 30 minutes. It’s important to drink plenty of fluid and eat a good meal prior to donating.

Antonelli College Awarded 2014 Military Friendly Schools ® Designation

Antonelli Military Friendly College Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has named Antonelli College to the coveted Military Friendly Schools® list. The 2014 Military Friendly Schools® list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

“Inclusion on the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools® shows Antonelli College’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students,” said Sean Collins, Vice President at Victory Media and a nine-year Navy veteran.   “The need for education is growing and our mission is to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools.”

The Military Friendly Schools® media and website, found at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com, feature the list, interactive tools and search functionality to help military students find the best school to suit their unique needs and preferences.  The 1,868 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.  These schools have world-class programs and policies for student support on campus, academic accreditation, credit policies, flexibility and other services to those who served.

Now in its fifth year, the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools ® was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding. The survey results that comprise the 2014 list were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media. Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria, and weightings developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from schools across the country.

A full story and detailed list of 2014 Military Friendly Schools® will be highlighted in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools ®, distributed in print and digital format to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel in early October.

ABOUT Victory Media Inc

Antonelli College-Cincinnati Graphic Design Dept. Teams Up with 501c3 Cincy Smiles® to Redesign Mobile Dental Office

Cincy Smiles Mobile Dental Office
Mockup of new cincysmiles® mobile unit sleeve designed by Eric Clark, Robert Jones, Sylvia Burl, April Dunn, and Robvia Wheaton

CINCINNATI, OH – Five graphic design students from the Cincinnati branch of Antonelli College have collaborated to create a newly designed bus-sleeve to renew the face of the Cincy Smiles’ state of the art mobile dental clinic. The Corporate Brand Development course was assigned the project in early May and worked on a very tight eight-week deadline to not only reinvigorate the non-profit’s branding but also to create the ideal atmosphere for a stress-free dental visit for the children in the Cincinnati Public School system and outlying Hamilton County schools. The designers worked closely with the Cincy Smiles board of directors as well as their instructor Ben Gardner to create imagery that was both inviting to the clientele as well as specific to the city of Cincinnati. This included multiple anthropomorphized buildings iconic to the Cincinnati skyline, cartoon animals to represent the Cincinnati Zoo, and both male and female tooth fairies in dental scrubs. Special considerations were made for the interior of the mobile facilities transforming them from an ‘under the sea’ theme to a brightly colored jungle including special areas to occupy the students’ attention while awaiting their turn at the dental chair.

Cincy Smiles is currently in the process of having the sleeve printed and mounted to the mobile unit. They plan to unveil the new sleeve in September 2013 at the McMicken Health Collaborative located at 40 E. McMicken Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45202. To learn more about Cincy Smiles and how to donate please visit www.CincySmiles.org.

Antonelli College announces a new Dental Assistant program at their Cincinnati and West Chester, OH locations

Antonelli College is pleased to announce that their Cincinnati and West Chester, OH campuses located at 124 East 7th Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202 (Cincinnati-Main Campus) and the 9100 West Chester Towne Center Drive, West Chester, OH  45069 (Satellite Location) are now accepting applications for their Dental Assisting program.  “The first Dental Assisting cohort is scheduled to start on September 3, 2013,” said Edward Rito, Campus President for the Ohio locations of Antonelli College.

“Antonelli College has been providing highly-skilled professional Dental Assistants at the Jackson and Hattiesburg locations in Mississippi and we want to provide the same quality of graduates to serve the Greater Cincinnati dental community,” continued Rito. Graduates of the program will earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Dental Assisting upon successful completion of the program.  The Dental Assisting program is a comprehensive program designed to provide the correct mix of technical training and general education to ensure graduates are able to function effectively as highly-skilled professionals. Students will be able to complete the program in 19 months or less.

This program will prepare the student to perform both clinical and administrative functions in the general practice or specialty dental office setting. The program includes lecture and discussion, extensive “hands-on” laboratory experience, and an externship at local dental practices. Students will learn various tasks of a Dental Assistant such as patient records management, dental laboratory procedures, oral hygiene education, “four-handed” dentistry, as well as specific training in all dental specialties.  Graduates of this program will also complete training in Dental Radiography.

According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, employment of dental assistants is expected to grow by 31 percent from 2010 to 2020, much faster than the average for all occupations. Ongoing research linking oral health and general health will continue to increase the demand for preventive dental services. As dental practices grow, more dental assistants will be needed. Job prospects for dental assistants should be excellent. In addition to job openings due to employment growth, numerous job openings will arise out of the need to replace assistants who transfer to other occupations, retire, or leave for other reasons. Many opportunities for entry-level positions offer on-the-job training, but some dentists prefer to hire experienced assistants or those who have completed a dental-assisting program.

Those interested in applying to Antonelli College’s Dental Assisting program should contact the College at the Cincinnati Main Campus at 513.241.4338, at the West Chester, OH location at 513.330.6807 or request information at www.antonellicollege.edu.

As a specialist in the field, graduates will work in positions such as Social Media Strategist, Social Media Marketing Manager, Blogger/Social Media Content Manager, Online Community Manager, Search Engine Marketing Associate, and Public Relations Brand Manager.

“Our goal is to make sure our graduates acquire the skills companies are looking for in employees focused on social media,” Karen Gautreau, Campus President of Antonelli College’s Cincinnati campus, explained. “We’re working with local businesses and studying current trends and technology to keep the degree content relevant.”

Antonelli College is currently accepting student applications for Social Media Management.  For more information, contact Phyllis Forney at 513/330-6807.

Antonelli College visits Homes of Hope for Christmas

Students, Faculty and Staff of Antonelli College spent an evening making the holiday season a little brighter for the children living at Homes of Hope. Kim Richardson, Dwanna Toney, Judy Edwards, Johna Barker and Joseph Starkey visited the facility bringing Santa Claus, pizza and goodies to the 14 children housed at the facility.

Homes of Hope for Children is the vision of Dr. Michael Garrett .The mission of Homes of Hope for Children is to serve children in crisis throughout Mississippi by providing strong, Christian homes to every child that lives on campus while ensuring that each child is loved unconditionally and has their physical, spiritual and emotional needs met. They have one home for boys and one home for girls. Seven children live in each home with a set of full-time house parents.

Antonelli College donated a Christmas tree to the girl’s cottage, digital cameras for both cottages, pajamas and stockings for all the children, gifts for the house parents, as well as gift cards for Christmas dinner. “All of us were moved by the experience to say the least,” said Kim Richardson, Dean of Students, “we colored, ate pizza, and played derby cars in the middle of the den.”
