Some administrative positions allow crossover with patient care and medical office work while others don't.
Medical care has been a highly sought-after service since the beginning of human civilization. Through the years, medicine has evolved causing medical care to grow more sophisticated and effective. Today, the healthcare industry is the largest employment sector in the country with more than 12.9 million jobs in the health services category.
Program Overview
The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Health Information Technology-Medical Administrative Assisting provides a comprehensive curriculum enabling graduates to find employment in the medical office field. It emphasizes mastering the language of medicine and how it is used in conjunction with the body systems, as well as giving basic overviews in coding, medical math, pharmacology and medical law to assist the student in working in a medical office environment. Graduates will be prepared for entry-level employment as administrative medical assistants in hospitals, physicians’ offices, nursing care facilities, outpatient care centers and laboratories.
