Study Skills

No matter if you attend courses on campus or online, your success is dependent on your ability to study effectively and efficiently. Wasted time, frustration and poor grades can all be the result of poor study skills. The best way to combat poor study skills is to develop an effective study habit from the beginning.

Unfortunately, there is no magic formula for studying. You simply must apply yourself and make an effort to understand the material and prepare for tests. The Internet has a lot of resources that can help you assess, develop and hone your study skills and habits.  You should consider:

  • Your goals and how to prepare for them
  • The ways you take in and process information
  • Information recall and how you best work with what you've learned
  • Types of tests and how you best approach them
  • How susceptible you are to procrastination
  • Stress and the ways you deal with it
  • Your organization, environment and motivation

Reading Comprehension
Even though our online learning courses have audio/visual lectures and simulations, they also require a large amount of reading.  A lot of students find benefit in seeking out resources that can help improve their reading comprehension abilities.  There are many sites on the Internet that offer these, or you can ask your advisor or instructors for quick tips.
