Jackson - Digital Photography
Our Associate of Applied Science degree in Digital Photography for Graphic Design explores traditional photography techniques using today’s growing digital technology. The Digital Photography degree program introduces the fundamentals of framing, focus, perspective and the rule of thirds. Students will develop software navigational skills to organize, edit and copyright photo-media using the latest Adobe Creative Studio. Students will master f-stops, shutter speeds, ISO settings and depth of field, as well as be exposed to a variety of photography techniques, such as portrait, product, fashion, sports and editorial.
With the use of “tear-sheets” (magazine images), students can develop an eye for leading lines, frames within a frame, dramatic lighting, colors that pop and creative compositions. Students can hone their creative and technical skills and master the operation of professional cameras, the Mac computer and specialized lighting equipment. Students will also learn the photographic anatomy of the face and body to create striking images. Our program covers basic website design, copyright law and media releases so that students can design their own websites and photography contracts. We also offer the Digital Photography program in the evenings, which can accommodate students who are busy or work during the daytime.
There’s no question that the photography industry is changing. With digital equipment increasing in quality and dropping in price, photography is becoming more accessible than ever to the general public. While the digital trend may seem to add an interesting twist to the already competitive photography marketplace, professional photographers continue to be in demand.
Graduates of the Digital Photography degree program will qualify for entry-level careers in advertising, publishing, commercial and product photography, photojournalism, product photography, and related areas of graphic design. With the knowledge and skills you gain from this program, you will be prepared to use photography in a wide-range of fields, including fashion, nature, professional portraiture, freelance and photojournalism.
