Our Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical Transcription can train you for a career in medical transcription through detailed, hands-on transcription courses and a medical transcription externship. Medical transcriptionists accurately report physicians’ findings and document all treatments and diagnoses. Typical documents produced by medical transcriptionists are discharge summaries, history and physical progress notes, and referral letters.
You can gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in this fast-paced, competitive field by learning medical terminology, documenting treatments and diagnoses, and writing medical reports. Curriculum for our medical transcriptionist program allows you to become familiar with standard office concepts, practices and procedures in the medical field.
Graduates can be prepared for entry-level employment as medical transcriptionists in hospitals, physicians’ offices, laboratories and outpatient care centers. Working as a medical transcriptionist offers great flexibility. Many medical transcriptionists are able to telecommute from home-based offices as employees or subcontractors for hospitals and transcription services or as self-employed, independent contractors.
